Acharya Amrita Devi (Ellen Jefferds)

Amrita Ellen newI was born into a family of “devout” atheists, so I was not spiritually-oriented in my early years. However, living in Berkeley in the late 60s, I was exposed to new ideas and was fortunate to be initiated into Transcendental Meditation on Valentine’s Day, 1970. I soon realized the value of spiritual work, became a TM teacher, and taught for over thirty years in Berkeley, New Orleans, Houston, and Nashville.

In 2005 I had the realization that my desire for further growth might lead me to a different practice. At that point I briefly “window shopped” a few teachings that were readily available in the Bay Area—but as soon as I started attending classes with Swami Khecaranatha in the summer of 2007, I knew I’d found the practice I could commit to for the rest of my life.

After four years of active participation and service, I was initiated into the teacher-training program by Swami Khecaranatha in March of 2011. In January, 2017, I was formally initiated as an acharya in the Rudrananda Pantha, participating in an all-day ceremony conducted in Ganeshpuri, India. In addition to teaching, I have edited several of Swami Khecaranatha’s books, assist him as CFO of Heart of Consciousness, and work in the Rudramandir office as finance manager.

My desire is to offer this invaluable program to anyone who would like to participate. My own experience is that the Heart of Consciousness practice provides a wonderful, direct means to deepening spiritual growth. This is what has motivated me to become a teacher of Kuṇḍalinī Sādhana and share the grace of this lineage. I am grateful to Swami Khecaranatha for giving me this opportunity to serve and teach.
